Jallikattu, A Tamilnadu Cultural Animal Sport

Jallikattu is a popular animal sport, organised in Tamil Nadu State, on the occasion of the Sankranti festival. Over the years, the sport has gained popularity, along with Telugu’s Kodi Pandem, Kannadiga’s Kabala, among other religious sports. However, in 2017, the Government of India forced the Tamilnadu State Government to stop the sport, citing that to as the act of torturing animals, with supporting complaints from animal welfare organisations, like PETA. However, Tamils fought back against the apex body by organizing state-wide protests and as a result, the sport was made legal by the State Government. Tamils made the culture win over constitution.
